Light-Directed LP Pack “Put-to-Store” Replenishment System for Retailers Featured at ProMat 2015.

Lightning Pick’s pack-to-light solution—on display in Booth 3903c—supports less-than-case quantity picking for retail store orders.

lightingPick_pack-to-lightGERMANTOWN, WI (March 26, 2015) — The LP Pack pack-to-light light-directed picking system (also sometimes called “put-to-light” or “put-to-store”) is an effective method of executing item distribution for specific retail store replenishment. Lightning Pick, a Matthews Automation Solutions’ brand, will feature a demo of the system at ProMat 2015 in Booth 3903c.

Operators use the fully integrated LP Pack system to support breaking of full cases of inventory down to less-than-case quantities of items bound for individual retail stores. To initiate the process, an operator scans the barcode attached to a full case of products with a cordless radio frequency (RF) unit. This prompts light modules to illuminate at box positions associated with stores requiring that item, and to indicate the quantity of that specific item needed for each order.

Different colored LEDs direct the operator to the store positions/boxes above or below the track of light modules. The operator quickly and accurately puts/packs the items into that store’s box, and then extinguishes the light to confirm the action. Upon completion of required picks, full cartons are pushed off onto a takeaway conveyor for transport to sealing stations for outbound shipping.

“Not all put-to-light applications are the same,” said Jim Bast, General Manager of Lightning Pick and Vice President of Operations for Matthews Automation Solutions. “That’s why our LP Pack solution is specifically engineered to optimize distribution centers servicing retail store locations and to support the unique requirements of that process, including push/pull inventory handling techniques. Its operating software can easily manage multiple open purchase orders (POs), carton level manifest updates and multi-case distribution.”

For operations with frequent turnover, or that rely on temporary or seasonal labor, LP Pack’s intuitive, visual sortation approach makes training extremely simple, enabling new employees to become productive after just a few minutes’ introduction to the system.

Lightning Pick’s LP Pack demo system can be seen in action at Booth 3903c throughout ProMat 2015 in Chicago, Illinois—March 23-26, 2015.
