Lightning Pick’s LP Pack solution for retail store replenishment deployed at Marshall Retail Group DC

Marshall Retail Group Put to Light

Marshall Retail Group packed a lot of automation into a compact space to replenish a network of 160 retail locations.

Matthews Automation Solutions’ brand Lightning Pick is featured as part of Modern Materials Handling magazine’s January 2016 cover story on the new distribution center (DC) that Marshall Retail Group (MRG) opened in Las Vegas last August. The article, “Marshall Retail Group: Big throughput in a small space,” describes how the compact, 64,000 square foot facility serves 160 retail storefronts and kiosks at casinos and airports in 12 states, the District of Columbia and Vancouver, British Columbia.

MRG’s Esther Diedrich, director of distribution (pictured on the magazine cover at right), notes that the LP Pack put-to-light mezzanine system has created a more ergonomic environment than the company’s previous, paper-based DC—reducing turnover. As described in the article, the LP Pack system functions as follows:

LP Pack – Put-to-light or Put-to-store for retail store replenishment orders: Regardless of the starting point, once a tote arrives in a zone, an associate scans the license plate bar code label on the tote. Each store in the system has a put-to-light location that holds a reusable tote for local stores or a shipping carton for stores in other regions.
