Lighting Up Material Handling.

As the recognized leader in pick-to-light technology, Lightning Pick offers solutions for operations including big box and specialty retailers, general merchandising, vitamins and supplements, pharmaceutical, direct-to-consumer including e-commerce order fulfillment, 3PL, medical products, computers and electronics, cell phone suppliers and many, many more. Fully integrated into your complete logistics system, Lightning Pick drives manufacturing, distribution and order fulfillment efficiency throughout the supply chain.

Order Fulfillment Specialists.

Many of our early customers remember us as Professional Control Corporation (PCC). In 2006 our PCC Systems order fulfillment technologies changed their name to Lightning Pick Technologies. The update was largely due to many customers and the marketplace now more commonly recognizing us by our leading light-directed systems. Since being introduced in 1998, Lightning Pick has introduced many hardware and software advances in the pick-to-light industry. Today the Lightning Pick Solution Suite offers a complete line of paperless picking products, each engineered to maximize productivity for specific material handling requirements, and optimizing a wide variety of order fulfillment techniques.

Matthews Automation Solutions.

Lightning Pick was acquired by Matthews International Corporation in August, 2011. Today, as part of Matthews Automation Solutions, we remain headquartered in Waukesha, Wisconsin. In 2015 our sister Matthews pick-to-light and order fulfillment systems brand IPTI, in Ixonia, WI became part of the Lightning Pick brand. Moving forward as the largest provider of light-directed systems in North America, Lightning Pick continues its focus on designing and delivering solid, superior order fulfillment automation.

Lightning Pick, the light-directed picking system, was introduced in 1998 by Professional Control Corporation in Germantown, Wisconsin. Many of our legacy customers recognize our previous name, PCC, a leading industrial automation and controls distributor, established in 1980.

Lightning Pick experienced rapid adoption throughout the industry because it pioneered two key advances in pick-to-light technology:

  • One of the earliest cable-free, bus-based light module hardware platforms, which significantly reduced system installation, reconfiguration, maintenance and expansion time and costs over prior generations of pick-to-light.
  • The first Windows-based pick-to-light software, leveraging growing server capabilities, flexibility and cost efficiency. As a Microsoft ISV Solutions Partner, Lightning Pick is a fully-developed, tested and versioned software product.

As a result of these technological advances, we proved we could deliver rapid ROIs with reliable, effective pick-to-light applications at a lower total cost of system entry or ownership. Further, we could offer light-directed picking systems to a wider scope of companies, application sizes and types than ever possible before.

In 2006 we changed our company name to Lightning Pick Technologies, better aligning ourselves with our leading product brand.

In August 2011, Lightning Pick was acquired by Matthews International Corporation, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Top brands worldwide rely on the best-in-class brands and technologies in Matthews’ industrial automation segment – Matthews Automation Solutions – to optimize manufacturing, distribution, fulfillment and logistics operations at the highest levels.

Innovative Picking Technologies, Inc. (IPTI), another Matthews pick-to-light and distribution center automation solutions provider, became part of the Lightning Pick brand in September, 2014. In December 2017, the Germantown and Ixonia, Wisconsin sites were combined under one roof in Waukesha, WI. With a larger footprint and an open floor plan, the new building facilitates employee collaboration and better accommodates customer visits with a larger space for pre-installation and pilot testing. Further, a larger Solutions Center product demo area enables Matthews’ employees to “sandbox” new technologies and layouts, as well as lets visitors interface hands-on with Lightning Pick products for light-directed picking, kitting and sortation.

Additionally, the Waukesha location will also house the demonstration and development center for the new Matthews Autonomous Mobile Vehicle and Robot Solutions.

Today, Lightning Pick has the largest number of live pick-to-light systems in North America, with more than one million lights installed.

Lightning Pick, Pyramid and Compass Engineering are Matthews Automation Solutions’ warehouse automation brands. Together with our Guidance Automation and RAF Technology brands, we provide standalone or fully integrated order fulfillment automation solutions that improve speed, quality and efficiency.
